First Annual Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest™ Promises
a Feast of Food, Flavors and Fun

It’s no secret that Pennsylvania’s regional foods create an enticing festival of flavors that attract visitors year round. And so it’s only natural that the first annual Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest™ will be held in one of the most fertile farmlands in the U.S., Lancaster County. This feast for the senses, which will be held Memorial Day Weekend, May 24 and 25, on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate and Winery, is a collaborative effort of the Winery and the PA Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau.

A Menu of Enjoyment

The Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest, with the help of signature partners Pennsylvania Preferred and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, will present Pennsylvania’s diverse culinary, beer and wine offerings and the finest in Pennsylvania artisan crafts in a country festival setting complete with family-friendly entertainment

Educational workshops by respected industry insiders representing Pennsylvania wineries, breweries and restaurants will shed light on tasty topics including an organic approach to eating, the culinary art of properly pairing foods with wines or brews and foods’ journey from farm to table.

Special guests, celebrity chef Jim Coleman and nationally-known beer and spirits connoisseur Lew Bryson, will each conduct two entertaining presentations on both Saturday and Sunday.

Regional and local culinary heroes will showcase their style, serving up six cooking demonstrations each day featuring original and fresh interpretations of traditional regional recipes while top PA restaurants sample and sell their delicious featured foods.

Festivalgoers can partake in a tasting tour of Pennsylvania wine country as fifteen of the area’s finest wineries sample and sell their featured wines. Beers from well established Pennsylvania breweries will provide a refreshing alternative for those who prefer hops to grapes.

The abundance of Pennsylvania’s backyard bounty will overflow from a wide variety of specialty food vendors, providing samples of the unique and taste tempting products available for purchase.  Many of these vendors proudly carry the PA Preferred label, indicating that at least 60% of the raw product was grown and harvested in the Commonwealth, or (for items like chocolate) 100% of the final manufacturing process and packaging was done in Pennsylvania, and meets any required quality standards.

A Helping Hand

FlavorFest is dedicated to more than the celebration of Pennsylvania foods. It is dedicated to making sure there is enough food for everyone in Pennsylvania. That is why FlavorFest will donate $1for every ticket sold to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The Food Bank distributes more than 15 million pounds of food and grocery products every year to more than 500 soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries in 27 central Pennsylvania counties. These agencies directly feed thousands of hungry families throughout central Pennsylvania. The money raised will be used by the Food Bank for grocery purchases from US Foods, a sponsor of the FlavorFest.

Colorful Accompaniments

No Memorial Day celebration would be complete without traditional “entertainment in the park” providing a diverse mix of musicians and strolling performers, including face painters, caricaturists and balloon artists.

Grammy and CMA award winners through their collaboration on the “O Brother, Where Art Thou” soundtrack, The Peasall Sisters blend their voices and instruments with the sounds of gospel and country creating a musical sensation that will have FlavorFest visitors coming back for second helpings.

Pennsylvania-based musicians Canal Street Hot 6 and Third Stream will round out the exciting musical line-up. The bright, happy, uplifting sounds of Dixieland jazz, complements of Canal Street Hot 6, will flow through the 30-acre festival grounds while Third Stream combines the creative, improvised sounds of jazz with an entertaining live performance not to be missed.

Artisan and Craft Creations

Delectable dishes won’t be the only creations on display during FlavorFest. Thirty artisans vetted by, and members of, the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen will sell one-of-a-kind items from a variety of disciplines including pottery, jewelry, leather, glass, basketry, photography and more that will pique the interest of even the most discerning shopper. Fascinating demonstrations by these skilled and highly respected artisans will be ongoing throughout the weekend.

Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this exciting new event to kick off the summer, Saturday and Sunday, May 24 & 25 11a.m. - 6a.m. Saturday and 11a.m. - 5p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15.95 for adults and $6.95 for children ages 5 to 11. Call 717-665-7021 or visit www.GreatPAFlavorFest.com for further information.
